Wheelchair ramps and home accessibility in Southwest Michigan

Quality Finish builds wheelchair ramps, landings and railings and makes homes easier to live in safely across Plainwell, Kalamazoo and the rest of Southwest Michigan. We also put in walk in showers and grab bars, so a parent or loved one can stay in their own home longer.

What we do

  • New wheelchair ramps and landings for homes and businesses
  • Rebuilding worn or soft wooden ramps
  • Low maintenance composite decking
  • Black aluminum railings
  • Walk in showers with low thresholds
  • Grab bars in showers and bathrooms
  • Entry steps and landings

How a job goes

  1. 1

    Free estimate at the house

We measure the height of the entry, look at the yard and talk about who will use the ramp and how.

  2. 2

    Plan the run

We work out the length, landings and turns the ramp needs so it is not too steep.

  3. 3

    Build

Solid framing, then composite decking and railings.

  4. 4

    Walk it together

We check it with you and the person who will use it before we call it done.

Wheelchair ramps and accessibility questions

How long does a wheelchair ramp need to be?

A common rule is 1 foot of ramp for every 1 inch of rise, so a door 24 inches above the ground needs about 24 feet of ramp plus landings. Our ramp planning guide explains the rest.

Is there help paying for a ramp?

Yes. Several Southwest Michigan programs help seniors and people with disabilities with ramps and home repairs. Our guide lists them with phone numbers.

Can you rebuild an old wooden ramp?

Yes. Our accessible ramp project replaced a worn wooden ramp with composite decking and black aluminum railings.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Quality Finish holds a Michigan residential builder license, carries insurance and is BBB accredited.

Do you put in grab bars and walk in showers?

Yes. Grab bars and walk in showers are part of our bathroom work, including the basement bathroom in our Recent work.
